Melbourn 1 vs Swavesey 1 (1st October 2025)

Melbourn won 17-7

The 1sts got their Cambs League Division 1 campaign underway for the 25-26 season with an encouraging 17-7 victory over Swavesey 1sts.

The match started with Mark Oppen (5) racing into a 7-0 lead in his opening game over Tucker Morris, only to lose his way and see it snatched away. Mark never fully recovered from this, losing 10-12, 5-11, 8-11.

The turnaround went the other way for Miles Jeanerret (4) as Dave Grant held four consecutive match balls at 10-6 in the fourth. But Miles saved them all, took the subsequent tie-break, and then rode the wave of momentum to win 11-13, 11-6, 5-11, 12-10, 11-6.

The next string was just as dramatic as Vinod Duraikan (3) and Tom Wright played out a see-saw match that went all the way to a deciding game tie-break. However, Vinod came through that to seal an 11-6, 7-11, 11-5, 3-11, 13-11 win that put the 1sts two strings to one up.

Things were more straightforward for the boys at the top of the order as Chris Shaw (1) and Matt Sampson (2) both won 3-0 against Ali Loke and David Roper respectively. Chris’ game scores were 11-, 11-9, 11-8, whilst Matt triumphed 11-3, 11-4, 11-3.
