Melbourn 2 vs Hunts County 2 (24 February 2025)

Melbourn 2nd Team faced a tough challenge against Hunts County in a closely contested fixture. Despite strong performances from several players, Hunts County ultimately came out on top, securing a 4-1 victory. Many of the matches were closely fought, with several games going to extra points, highlighting the competitiveness of the fixture. The home team showed determination across all matches, with Moises securing an impressive win at string 3. However, the other matches were hard-fought but ultimately went in the visitors' favour. Many of the games were decided by fine margins, with Melbourn players demonstrating resilience but struggling to consistently apply pressure and control rallies.

Will Bradshaw (String 5) vs Marcus Latimer – Lost 0-3
After a confident warm-up, Will was off to a promising start. He showed plenty of energy and produced some great retrieval shots but was repeatedly pushed out of position by his opponent Marcus' accurate length play. A reluctance to volley proved costly, allowing his opponent to dictate the pace. Despite being competitive in each game, unforced errors and growing frustration led to a 3-0 loss.

Sean Hamilton (String 4) vs Kev Hewitt – Lost 0-3
Sean battled hard but struggled to find his rhythm against an opponent who capitalised on every opportunity, deploying deft drops and cheeky half court boasts. A fast-paced opening saw Sean narrowly lose the first game 15-13. The second followed a similar pattern, with Sean making strong starts but losing out in the key moments. The third game saw his opponent Kev pull away, securing a 3-0 win.

Moises Estrelles Navarro (String 3) vs Rick Watson – Won 3-2
Moises delivered the standout performance for Melbourn, securing a well-earned 3-2 victory in a thrilling contest. He dominated early on, confidently taking the first two games. However, Rick responded with extreme power, mounting a strong comeback and forcing longer, more physical rallies. As Rick began to impose his hard-hitting game, Moises adapted by varying his shot selection, using tighter angles to disrupt Rick's rhythm - and chasing down every ball. His ability to adjust under pressure proved decisive, holding his nerve in the final game to secure the win.

Gareth Jones (String 2) vs Emily Fuller – Lost 1-3
Gareth started strongly, forcing opponent Emily into a series of mistakes to end the first game 15-10 up. The second was more equally matched with Emily showing significant improvement to win. Gareth pushed back to 14-14 in the third before Emily raised the pressure at key points to secure the game at 16-14. Although there were excellent rallies and flashes of brilliance from both players, Gareth lost the final game, resulting in a 3-1 defeat.

Kate Bradshaw (String 1) vs Sean Broderick – Lost 2-3
Kate delivered a determined and competitive display in the top-string match, taking her opponent Sean the full distance. The opening games were tightly contested, with Kate digging deep to make it 2-2. An exasperated Sean reacted with frustration at some of the marker's decisions, which briefly disrupted his focus but added to the intensity of the match. Skilful use of high lobs, varied pace and lethal serves took Kate 12-9 up in the final game. Sean stayed calm, using devastating power, precise shot placement and strong fitness to turn the match around. Kate lost the final points narrowly, allowing Sean to secure the victory 15-12 in the deciding game.
