Towers 1 vs Melbourn 1 (5th February 2025)
Melbourn lost 5-18
The 1sts were always up against it away to league leaders Towers 1sts (from that famous Cambridgeshire town, of, um… Bedford!), who powered to an 18-5 win.
Matt Sampson (1) was the only Melbourn player victorious as he produced arguably his best form of the season to win 3-1 against Ben Mann, edging home in an extended 4th game tie-break to round out an 11-4, 11-7, 7-11, 14-12 success. Vinod Duraikan (2) started well, winning his opening game against Steve Evans 11-2 but that proved to be a high point as he lost 3-1 (11-2, 4-11, 3-11, 7-11).
Apart from that skipper Mark Oppen (5) contributed Melbourn’s only other point as he took the third game of a 3-1 loss (3-11, 5-11, 11-8, 2-11 vs Dan Evans), with Mike Herd (3) and Miles Jeanneret (4) both losing 3-0 to Ryan Pescod and Jonathan Towers respectively – games scores in these two were 6-11, 9-11, 8-11 for Mike, and 8-11, 4-11, 5-11 for Miles.
